Board of Visitors
As the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center’s (DLIFLC) is chartered by Congress as a degree-granting institution like the U.S. Service Academies, DLIFLC is required by its accrediting commission to adhere to numerous (more than 120) standards of accreditation to include having a Board of Visitors (BoV).
DLIFLC is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
The core purpose of being accredited is to assure the public that institutions are meeting specific standards, and that institutions are achieving their stated educational mission. “It is the ultimate in comprehensive, institutional-level quality assurance” says Dr. Robert Savukinas, DLIFLC Provost.
The DLIFLC Board of Visitors (BoV) is comprised of men and women from academia, business, military, government, and other professional areas. The Army Education Advisory Committee (AEAC) serves as the parent committee to the DLIFLC BoV. The BoV’s primary role is to serve as an advisory panel and independent sounding board, furnishing constructive input to the Institute’s leadership through the AEAC. Concurrently, the Board serves as a guardian of institutional integrity, assisting the Commandant in ensuring that DLIFLC continues to fulfill its stated mission.
Board of Visitor meetings are open to public. Public notice of upcoming meetings and proposed agendas are listed with the Federal Register.
More information about the DLIFLC Board of Visitors can be found in the Federal Advisory Committee Act Database.
