Professional Military Education Support (ProMES)

The Professional Military Education Support (ProMES) Program provides language and cultural familiarization instruction to U.S. military officers participating in Professional Military Education (PME) programs throughout the United States. Depending on the level of desired language proficiency, operational language domains of interest and how much time students can devote for language and culture training, the ProMES team can tailor instructional curricula that is right on target.

The ProMES Program consists of a program manager and ten instructors, who can be deployed on temporary duty to provide instruction in Iraqi Dialect, Persian-Afghan (Dari), Pashto, Spanish, French, Korean, and Chinese-Mandarin. ProMES can also provide instruction in other languages based on the availability of instructors from other programs and schools, as well as with contractor support, if required. The ProMES Program currently conducts instruction at the Combined Arms School at Fort Leavenworth, Kan, Marine Corps Command and Staff College at MCB Quantico, Va., the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., and the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. In FY08, 1372 officers graduated from the ProMES language courses.
