The Air Force Senior Language Authority, Crystal Moore, recently took a two-day tour of the Presidio of Monterey for the first time since being appointed a member of the Senior Executive Service in 2023.
Among her many responsibilities, including the management and development of 660,000 military and civilian personnel, Moore also serves as the executive agent for the Defense Language Institute English Language Center in San Antonio, Texas.
During her tour, Moore visited with Air Force cadre and observed foreign language classes at the Institute.
Of her classroom visits, Moore said, “The faculty and students are simply amazing. It was exciting to observe the classroom and watch students who were in their first semester compared to students who were in their last semester—the capability and how quickly the students advanced was astounding.”
Moore pointed out that DLIFLC does not teach just language. The team of instructors also bring regional expertise and personal cultural experience to the curriculum, something that she says enhances the service member’s experience.
“It is clear—DLI is a premier language school, not just within the DoD, but across the United States,” she said. “The rigor and results achieved are directly and positively impacting our national competitiveness against our adversaries around the globe.”
“DoD’s language enabled members are critical to national defense, working with our allies and partners, and competing into the 21st Century,” she said. “I couldn’t be more proud of the DLI faculty and students!”
